Since 1997, ELUMC has been especially committed to providing a safe and supervised environment for all, wherever our ministries take place. To achieve this goal, the church has established and implemented a Safe Sanctuaries Program. By means of this program, the church affirms its support of a 1996 resolution of the General Conference of the United Methodist Church concerning sexual abuse and sexual harassment within the church.
The program involves voluntary, covenanted compliance with specific guidelines for the care of children, youth and adults. The guidelines include a screening process for all workers with children and/or youth, both volunteer and employed. The screening process consists of three components that are applied to each worker: collecting and reviewing background information, obtaining and reviewing criminal offense records from the state, and securing a signed, covenant statement. A coordinator administers the program along with the pastor. More information can be obtained by sending an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling the church office at (413) 525-7416.
