Worship Series - Lent 2014

Series runs March 5 – April 13, Sundays at 10.
Holy Vessels: Healing & Wholeness.

Holy Vessels under Cross Lent – Holy Vessels: Healing & Wholeness
We are invited to live an Easter life – living as if death has no hold on us.  Each of us is created a precious vessel of God's love.  Each of us has experienced hurt in some way, bringing a sense of brokenness.  To move toward healing is to offer the gift of life and wholeness (or wholi-ness), not only for ourselves but also for others as we come to see each person as a holy vessel, and as we come to desire that wholeness for all of creation.  The image of a vessel in the form of beautiful glass containers and broken glass in the form of tumbled beach glass are visual metaphors for the season.  You are invited to bring your own glass vessel to grace our worship center.

April 17, Maundy Thursday, 7 p.m. - This Holy Week service offers us a chance to immerse ourselves in the story through the writings of a 4th century pilgrim to Jerusalem named Egeria.  She wrote a journal on her sojourn to the Holy Land to take back home to Spain and share with her “sisters.” This ancient historical document gives us a flavor of the drama and devotion of pilgrims of that time. Our “one-night” re-enactment of the week’s events will begin in the garden and travel through the “Temple chambers” upstairs, ending in the sanctuary with the shadows of the crucifixion and a reaffirmation of baptism.  We will be joined by members of West Springfield UMC.

A once-in-a-lifetime historical worship event
using the rituals of early followers.
